Creative Critical Reflection: Question 1 - Draft

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

My project uses and challenges conventions in a variety of ways. To start with the cover of my magazine has a picture of Lake Okeechobee's "Moonshine Bay" early in the morning. This is a convention because if you look at the cover of other magazines that focus on outdoor activities you will see that they have a picture of nature itself or a picture of someone catch or kill. Also on the cover I put a white border on the outside which came from National Geographic's magazine where they have the yellow border on the outside. This is only the magazine that I know of that has that formatting on the cover so it challenges the convention of magazine formatting because there are not a lot of magazines that use that format. It also challenges conventions because the article that are going to be in the magazine are going to help people succeed in their outdoor activities. This is challenging the convention because not very many magazines give you a how to guide. Instead, they just show you what the person caught or killed and where they killed it and that is the extent of that article. They will also tell you certain things will help you on your excursions but they don't actually have someone that has used them it is just the manufacturers word that you have to trust.
