My Decision

During my AICE Media Studies class I am going to focus on the magazine rather than the film portion. I believe this will be a better choice because I will be able to use the software for the magazine easier than the software for the film. I plan on doing an "outdoors" magazine focusing on anything from boats to guns to hunting to fishing. I plan on working by myself for the sole reason that I don't want to have to rely on someone and be let down and I don't want someone relying on me and potentially letting them down. It will simply be easier to do the project myself without having to worry about other people and what they need help with. I believe my project will be a viable media project because there are many people throughout the world that would like to read about fishing and hunting locations in there area as well as what technology will make their lives easier when it comes to outdoor activities. My target audience is anyone that goes outside and has boats and buggies and anything of the sort. I plan on attracting not just a single type of audience but a few different ones in one magazine. I will distribute my product by selling it on news stands and in stores like gas stations a grocery stores.

Why is the film making task good for me?

During my AICE Media Studies class I have learned a few different techniques that are utilized during the film making process. These techniques range from improvising to having an exact script and guideline as to how things get done. The film making project would be good for me because not only do I love film it will be physically easier for me to get videos and pictures of places that are borderline unreachable by conventional methods. I have boats and other off road capable vehicles that will allow me to reach places in the wilderness that other people may be unable to reach. I also have things that allow me to reach high area in the tops of trees and know people with drones and other devices that can fly and take video or pictures of things that are too high to reach by climbing or crane. The limitations that I may have are the lack of knowledge with video editing but I am able to learn quickly and adapt to create a movie efficiently. I may also be limited in the quality of video I can achieve, I may have equipment to get the video but it may not be the best. I am able to pick out things that shouldn't be in film easily such as jump cuts and other props that weren't there before. When taking these things into consideration it would be a good idea for me to do the film making portion of the exam rather than the magazine because it would be easy to get the video as well as enjoyable.

Why is the magazine task good for me?

From what I have learned in my short time in AICE Media Studies, the magazine task would be a good fit for me for a few reasons. I am able to talk to people in fields ranging from construction workers to accounting to surgery to people who apart of physical therapy. This allows me to be able to get reliable facts from people who are experts in the field without vested interest in the magazine. Meaning that they will find no need to lie to improve there story or information so the information that I would be able to get in the magazine wouldn't be flawed.

Another reason that the magazine would be a good task for me is because I will be able to get pictures over head to nature scenes to underwater with the equipment and machinery I have at home. I have boats that can reach extremely difficult areas to get to as well as buggies and 4-wheelers that can get me to secluded areas that very little people are able to see. Aside from the areas that I can reach I have a dear friend who is a photographer that will be able to take pictures that I may not.

Some limitations that I have are the fact that I may need my friend to help me with photography and she may not be able to help every time I need it. Aside from not needing help occasionally i am unable to acquire pictures at extremely high altitudes for something like an establishing shot. Another limitation I have is that my skills with computers and adobe programs is limited so I may need some help when it comes to the computer program and making all the pictures and pages look good.
